Start here after you have chosen and checked your recipes. This guide does not tell you which flowers to use or how many stems make a good bouquet. Every quantity and price below is fictional and demonstrates the calculation only.
Gather these four inputs
- Each arrangement type and how many you will make.
- The number of purchased stems of each flower needed for one arrangement.
- Your chosen allowance for extra stems.
- Each supplier product’s pack size and price, in the same currency.
Use consistent names for identical products. Keep white roses and pink roses separate. If two products cannot substitute for one another, do not give them the same name.
1. Add up matching stems across your recipes
On a narrow screen, swipe inside either table to see every column.
| Arrangement | Quantity | White roses each | Pink roses each | Eucalyptus stems each |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bouquets | 4 | 7 | 3 | 2 |
| Table arrangements | 10 | 5 | 2 | 3 |
- White roses: (4 × 7) + (10 × 5) = 78 stems.
- Pink roses: (4 × 3) + (10 × 2) = 32 stems.
- Eucalyptus: (4 × 2) + (10 × 3) = 38 stems.
These are recipe totals, not yet the quantities to purchase. Your supplier may sell only whole bunches.
2. Apply your allowance, then round to whole bunches
For this example, we choose 10%. This is not a recommended allowance for every wedding or flower. Confirm a suitable allowance for your own plan.
Round the allowance-adjusted requirement up to a whole stem. Then divide by the supplier’s stems per bunch and round up again.
| Flower | Recipe stems | With 10% allowance | Stems / bunch | Buy (bunches) | Price / bunch | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| White rose | 78 | 86 | 25 | 4 | $32 | $128 |
| Pink rose | 32 | 36 | 10 | 4 | $12 | $48 |
| Eucalyptus | 38 | 42 | 10 | 5 | $9 | $45 |
| Example flower purchase total | $221 | |||||
The flower purchase estimate is $221. Containers, tools, delivery, tax and labor are excluded. Bunch sizes and prices are examples, not standard supplier terms.
Four 25-stem bunches contain 100 white roses. After the allowance-adjusted requirement of 86, there are 14 extra stems from buying whole packs. Those 14 are separate from the eight stems already added as allowance; they are not automatically waste.
3. Combine compatible stock before rounding
Buying white roses separately for the two groups would require two bunches for the bouquets and three for the tables: five bunches altogether. Combining the shared requirement before rounding needs four bunches instead.
Separate: ceil(ceil(28 × 1.10) ÷ 25) + ceil(ceil(50 × 1.10) ÷ 25) = 5 bunches.
Combined: ceil(ceil(78 × 1.10) ÷ 25) = 4 bunches.
“ceil” means round up to the next whole number.
That difference only applies when the flowers are the same purchasable product and can genuinely be shared. Different varieties, suppliers or delivery batches may need separate calculations. The calculator does not manage stock reservations or delivery schedules.
4. Enter, check and keep your list
Open the DIY Wedding Flower Calculator. Replace the sample arrangements with your own recipes, then enter the correct supplier pack sizes and prices for every flower row. Review the number of bunches, extra stems and total.

Before you place the order
What if my recipe says half a bunch?
Convert it to purchased stems using the actual supplier’s bunch information before entering it. This tool accepts whole stem counts; it does not infer stems from a photo, a bucket or a fraction of a bunch.
What if I rename a flower?
Check that row’s pack size and price again. Renaming does not transfer the previous name’s purchasing settings.
Does changing currency convert prices?
No. It changes the display label only. Enter all prices in one currency.
Confirm the recipes, product availability and packaging with your supplier before purchasing. This tool calculates your shopping quantities; it does not recommend flower designs or place orders.
